[/size]The weekend had come after a hard week of pretending to care about anything the teachers said in class. As the students poured out of the academy at last bell Otto excitedly headed for the parking lot. He was supposed to be picking up his niece Charlotte for the weekend and she'd been begging to to go some new build-an-animal store that had been put in the mall. He had agreed without hesitation, wanting to whatever he could to please the curly haired rugrat. The three year old was the spitting image of her mom, but had somehow inherited her uncle's charming, I'll-get-my-way personality. She even thought of Otto as her dad half the time, since her own father was rarely there for her and her mother (having been a teen mom) could care less about her most nights. Lila lived with their mom and dad upstate and rarely passed up an opportunity to hand over her daughter to someone else.
Otto loaded up in his car and pulled out of the parking lot, turning on some classic rock as he drove. When he pulled into the mall he texted his sister to let her know he was there to pick up Charlotte and would meet her at the fountain. It didn't take long for him to spot his sister texting away and his niece leaning over the fountain. He bolted over and grabbed the little one around the waist before she fell in and wrapped her in a hug instead. She giggled and buried her face in his chest with a squeal as he tickled her ribs. His sister glanced up from the phone in time to see the scene.
"Shit! Sorry! I've got this really hot dude who's taking me out to the club later. He's hella rich, too so I know I'm getting spoiled tonight." His sister laughed.
"Uhm, ew! I don't need to know about that. Secondly, don't cuss in front of my niece. It'll rub off on her. I'll see you Sunday evening?" He said as he adjusted the toddler on his hip.
"Oh, it's okay, Otto," His sister said ruffling his hair, "It's got to be hard having a hot sister like me. I'll see you Sunday. If she gives you any trouble, call mom not me."
Otto watched as his sister went back to texting as she walked to the exit before turning his attention back to the little one. He gave her a big grin and set her down on the ground, letting her grab a hold of his fingers and began walking with her towards the middle of the mall. He got a few 'Awws' from random girls he knew from school and smiled happily. He knew that little kids were chick magnets, though he didn't use his niece like that. He stopped when they got closer to the food court and turned to look down at her.
"Okay, Charlie, what do you want to do first? Are you hungry? Or do you want to go to," He looked at the mall listing, "Build-A-Bear first?"
"BID-A BEAR! BID-A BEAR! BID-A BEAR!" His niece squealed excitedly.
Otto laughed and let her lead him towards the brightly lit store. He glanced around at the other parents there with their kids and tried to figure out how much he was willing to spend. Charlotte took off from him and he followed at a safe distance, carefully keeping his eye on her as she looked through the various empty plus animals in bins all over the store. He glanced down at his phone and when he glanced up Charlotte was barreling full force across the store towards another display. She was not paying close enough attention to where she was going and ran right into someone's legs. Wide-eyed he ran over and grabbed Charlotte into his arms.
"I am so sorry! Are you okay?" He asked as he put the wiggly toddler on his hip.
